Welcome to Long Tale Press LLC. We’d like to show you a sample of what we’re all about, so sit back, strap in, and let’s go! You’ve probably figured out already that we have a bookstore. In this space you will find an ever-increasing number of great stories, well told. You can click on a book and read the quick synopsis as well as what other readers have said about it. Books are currently available in eBook and Audiobook formats. Check the individual listings for the formats available. Our first print books will start arriving in the bookstore in a few months. We’ve tried to make the book-buying process as simple and straight-forward as possible. When you buy an e-Book, you can download it immediately and read it on-screen. (You’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader.) We keep a record of the books you’ve purchased, so if you lose your eBook (crashed hard drive, accidental deletion, etc.) you can always come back and download it again, at no extra charge! Audiobooks can also be downloaded. They come in compressed files that unpack into multiple chapters. Yes, you can re-download Audiobooks as well. You can put the Audiobook on your media player, iPod, Zune, or other portable device in addition to playing on your computer. Audio CDs are also available at an additional cost, but include both the audio and eBook formats!
Writer's Submissions
How do we get all these great books? We're glad you asked that. There are some truly great books and some not really so great books that get published by major houses every year. But there are also a lot of good stories that never see the light of day for no reason other than that they might not be a blockbuster in the eyes of the agents, editors, and publishers who have to approve it to get it to print. We are looking for those books. Writers can submit an excerpt from their book to Long Tale Press. We place the submission in an open forum where actual readers, like yourself, can read the opening chapters and decide if they think the book is worth publishing. This isn’t a vanity press. Writers don’t pay us to publish their books. We publish the books that readers say they want to read! What a “novel” approach.
If you have a completed, publication-ready, manuscript that you’d like to get published, we encourage you to visit the Writer Zone, read the submission guidelines, and submit your excerpt. When a book is selected for publication, Long Tale Press has some of the most generous royalties in the business. But maybe you’d like to know more about how the book is selected for publication.
Reader Reviews
Who are these readers? Well, you, for one. When you join Long Tale Press, you automatically become a Novice Reviewer. You can read, evaluate, and comment on anything in the submission file. As you submit more reviews you can get promoted in the ranks of reviewers. You may even become a Senior Editor someday! If you rate a submission highly, the submission earns points towards publication. If you particularly like something, you can even assign extra points to it from the points you have earned by doing other reviews. You can discuss books in forums, get responses from the writer, and even make suggestions on how the work could be improved!
When the “publishing threshold” for review points is reached, we ask the writer for the full manuscript and ask a committee of reviewers who have reviewed the excerpt positively to read and verify that the whole book lives up to the promise of the excerpt. This “manuscript pool” can provide feedback to the author on everything from punctuation problems to plot holes. When the author has addressed the manuscript pool's concerns satisfactorily, we publish the book.
