Summary

Held for murder in a modern English village, a visiting folksinger must match her wits against hi-tech police expertise and arrogant aristocracy. She unravels Shakespeare’s link to The Gunpowder Plot of 1605, probes dangerous suspicions, and risks her legs in a conjuring trick gone wrong. Overweight on the scales, overdrawn at the bank and nudging forty, the bumbling Australian balladeer is a dunce at deduction yet well versed in human frailty. Her insight in this suspenseful whodunit defies logic until, finally, leading her to the truth and a death trap.
