Writer’s Note
Thank you to everyone who has rated and reviewed my excerpt so far. Of the critical comments, I have to say that I agree with most of them. This excerpt is basically all of chapter 1 from the book, but the real action doesn't start until chapter 2. In hindsight, chapter 1 is more of a prologue than anything else, and I should probably go back and revise to make that clearer. For now I'll let it stand as-is, but don't be surprised if I update this excerpt someday to show more of what's in chapter 2.
