Summary
Something down there doesn’t like you. This is what the people of a small New England town discover in my dark fantasy novel, Demon Ridge.
The two main characters are Jeff Strickland and Elliott Ryan. As a young boy, Jeff frequently finds himself transported to a place of absolute darkness and silence, where he is not alone. Elli-ott, a teenage delinquent, suddenly discovers that he can see through the eyes of something in-human and unstoppable that surfaces from the earth to stalk and kill. These characters grow to adulthood, each linked in a different way to the ancient evil that preys upon their town. Events culminate in a final confrontation which is both inevitable and violent. None of the protagonists emerge unscathed; not all of them survive.
Writer’s Note
As with many fine works in this genre, (e.g. - Twilight Eyes by Dean Koontz, Desperation by Stephen King, Dark Corner by Brandon Massey, etc.) much of the action is set underground. Demon Ridge is unique, however, in that it is written by an active caver. I am a member of the Northern New Jersey Grotto, an organization dedicated to cave exploration and preservation. I have had numerous articles published in that organization’s newsletter and I have participated in cave rescue simulations. My caving experience was the subject of an article in 201, a magazine covering activities in Bergen County, New Jersey. The scenes in the caves are all drawn from personal experience.
