Summary

Two friends separated by thousands of miles are caught up in separate mysteries. Their circumstances couldn’t be more different. Bettina, a computer science Professor from Tasmania, is caught up in the murder of a local leader in a Papua New Guinea village. Meanwhile, her friend and confidant Charlie discovers a plot to create wide scale panic by embedding a bug inside the code of Windows. The two plots are connected by occasional e-mails between the two friends.

Writer’s Note

This is a work of fiction, but I did live in Papua New Guinea for three years in the late 1980's and I currently work at Microsoft. The book is set in the mid 1990's and was inspired by my experience of returning to the United States after living abroad for eight years and feeling like a stranger for the first year or two. This is the second novel in a series of mystery stories about Bettina and Charlie. The first novel "The Devil in Tasmania" was published in a collection of my writings entitled "The First Thirty Years" which is available here: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-First-Thirty-Years/Charles-Hunter-Freeman/e/9780595213696/?itm=7
