Summary
Set in modern day Scotland, Escape is the story of two individuals, Gerry McCrae and Emily McDonough, who are desperate to begin their lives anew. Gerry, a former homicide detective, is an alcoholic who is haunted by the one case he’d never managed to solve. After losing custody of his children to his ex-wife due to his alcoholism, he is determined to rebuild his life and get his children back. Emily is the victim of an abusive, alcoholic husband, who finds the courage to leave him and begin a new life. They both end up working in the same small pub in Aberdeen, and, quite unexpectedly, fall in love. However, Emily’s ex-husband is far more nefarious than even she knew, and ends up being the key Gerry needs to solve the crime that has eluded him for years.
Writer’s Note
The Real Thing is a Canadian born author who lives in southern Ontario with her husband and their two children. Although she has been a school teacher for close to eighteen years, she has always had a passion for writing. She enjoys teaching her students the finer points of writing, using her own work as examples, and has found that her students are inspired by her enthusiasm and proficiency. The Real Thing writes fan fiction and has written five novels and is currently working on a sixth.
